7 things I say

You know those parenting moments when you stop and think, "Did I just say that?!" I'm not talking about the times you sound like your own parent or a crotchety neighbor. I'm talking about instances such as having to instruct your son not to use his butt crack as a pocket. (Yeah...) Living in Kenya, I say things that I never previously imagined were things that could be said. They begin to be routine, but every now and then I hear these phrases coming out of my mouth and realize how foreign my current normal is to my past self.

In Texas I say...
Could you stop by HEB and grab some Blue Bell on your way home?
In Kenya I say...
Could you stop by the chemist and grab some dewormer on your way home?

In Texas I say...
Maybe we should do laundry sometime.
In Kenya I say...
I need 80 liters of water today so I can wash the boys' school uniforms.

In Texas I say...
We don't use that very often, so I keep it in the hall closet.
In Kenya I say...
We don't use that very often, so I keep it in the cupboard in a paper sack to keep the gecko poop off.

In Texas I say...
We can get it at Target.
In Kenya I say...
We'll look for it, but you know we can't always find what we want.

In Texas I say...
Flush the toilet every time.
In Kenya I say...
There's no water, only flush for #2.

In Texas I say...
How can this floor be so dirty? I just vacuumed a few days ago!
In Kenya I say...
How can this floor be so dirty? I just swept this morning!

In Texas I say...
Let's go to the mall. They have a/c.
In Kenya I say...
Let's go to the mall. They have a/c.

Ok, some things are familiar after all.
